Here is a picture taken after the end of my first 10k run at Hatfield broad oak on Monday 31st May 2010.
As part of getting super fit for one of the items on my bucket list I have decided to take part in a few fitness challenges. This was my first one.
Normally I don’t really like running all that much but thought I would give it a go.
I had only even run this distance once before in training around Bishops Stortford and that time I found it very difficult. I approached this run with a little caution and to try not to set off too fast.
I was hoping for any time under 1 hour but I also wanted to keep up with my girlfriend Jo who had done a few 10k’s and wanted to finish under 56mins.
Throughout the race I found it pretty easy and my breathing was not a problem. I put this down to the Crossfit met con Wod’s, getting me prepared. I comfortably completed 7k when I caught up with another runner from our group, who is usually a lot faster than I am. He was struggling a bit so I ran with him for 2k to help him out a bit and to give me someone to talk to!
At the 9k marker I decided to go for it and I wanted to catch Jo who was now about 150m ahead. I sped up and weaved my way through everyone in front of me. I was working pretty hard right now and was breathing heavily but I knew I was nearly finished. I passed her with 200m to go and ran as fast as I could to the line.
My finish time was 54 mins 21 secs which I was pleased with considering it was the first race I had done.
I think the next thing on my agenda is some type of mountain biking event.
